THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

1.0     Introduction

The purpose of any establishment is profit maximization, increase in productivity as well as image projection through effective management of material and human resources. An essential ingredient of any successful leadership is the ability to handle people effectively, because people respond according to the manner in which they are treated. The behaviour of leaders and their style of management will influence the effort expended and level of performance achieved by sub-ordinate staff that is the way in which managers approach the performance of their jobs and the behaviour they display towards subordinate staff likely to be conditioned by predispositions about people and human nature of work. In these, most people have the potential to be self-motivating, because they can best achieve their efforts towards meeting the goals of the organization.
